DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

PROFESSOR DR INTAN HASHIMAH MOHD HASHIM

Warm greetings to all visitors and friends of KANITA.I am delighted to welcome you to the Centre for Research on Women and Gender (KANITA) at Universiti Sains Malaysia. KANITA has long served as a pioneering space for advancing gender scholarship in Malaysia, committed to examining how gender shapes lives, institutions, and societies.

Our work is guided by a strong belief in the transformative power of knowledge. We are dedicated to promoting gender equality through interdisciplinary research, education, and community engagement. By bringing together diverse perspectives, we aim to inform policies and practices that contribute to a more inclusive and equitable world.

KANITA also plays a vital role in capacity building—supporting students, academics, and practitioners through our graduate programmes, training workshops, and policy dialogues. We take pride in nurturing a new generation of scholars and advocates who are passionate about gender justice and committed to meaningful social change.

We recognise that diversity—in thought, identity, and lived experience—is essential to building such a world. At KANITA, we celebrate and embrace a wide spectrum of voices and perspectives, knowing that true progress comes from listening to and learning from one another. Our efforts are grounded in a firm commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that everyone, regardless of background or gender is seen, heard, and valued.

As a psychologist and academic, I have always believed in the importance of relationships, compassion, and human dignity. These values are central to our work at KANITA, where we seek not only to generate knowledge but to foster understanding, empathy, and empowerment.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our centre. I warmly invite you to explore our initiatives, collaborate with our team, and join us in creating a future where all individuals—regardless of gender—have the opportunity to thrive.
